Laser Vision Correction

What Is Laser Vision Correction?

Laser vision correction permanently reshapes the front of your eye, or cornea, to help you focus better. Treatments, such as LASIK surgery, are safe, effective, and done on an outpatient basis. They also give you a lasting alternative to glasses or contacts.

Why Get Laser Vision Correction?

Are you tired of dealing with your contact lenses or glasses? How would you like to be able to wake up and see immediately or go for a run without your glasses or contacts?  Did you know that laser vision correction is actually more affordable over time than glasses and contact lenses?

Now is the time to consider laser vision correction. Dr. Ennen was the first surgeon to perform LASIK in Fort Smith and has invested in state-of-the-art technology to provide this life-changing surgery at Ennen Eye Center.

Dr. Ennen’s legacy of high quality laser vision correction is now being carried on by Dr. Rodriguez who has extensive refractive surgery experience. We are the area’s leader in laser vision correction. We pride ourselves on providing safe, high-quality surgery with advanced technology. Dr. Rodriguez and our staff would love to meet you and provide a complimentary laser vision correction evaluation.

What Procedures Are Available?

LASIK

Laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) is the most common laser vision correction procedure due to its well-established safety record, high effectiveness, and quick recovery. At Ennen Eye Center, we perform customized all-laser LASIK.

This means that we use a femtosecond laser to create a corneal flap. In turn, this lets us access your corneal stroma, which we then reshaped with a customized excimer laser treatment to optimize your vision.

PRK

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a safe, effective alternative to LASIK. In fact, it uses the same laser as LASIK to reshape the cornea, and improve your vision but without creating a corneal flap.

Although LASIK is the most commonly performed laser vision correction procedure because of its comfortable and quick recovery, it’s not always the best or safest choice for vision correction due to certain anatomical considerations or corneal conditions. At Ennen Eye Center, our refractive surgeon will help guide you to the safest and most effective procedure for you.

Phakic IOLs

Also known as ICLs, phakic intraocular lenses (IOLs) are a safe, effective option for patients who aren’t ideal candidates for laser vision correction. Phakic IOLs involve implanting a soft lens inside your eye to correct astigmatism and even high levels of nearsightedness that laser vision correction can’t fix.

Laser corneal refractive surgery (like LASIK/PRK) is the mainstay for people desiring vision correction until about the age of 40 to 45. After that age, however, patients begin to develop presbyopia. Presbyopia is an age-related process that causes our eyes to lose their near vision hence the need for over-the-counter readers or bifocals. With that said, laser corneal refractive surgery may not meet the goal of freedom from glasses after the age of 40 to 45 or provide as long of an improvement as desired. Here in lies the advantage of a lens-based procedure called refractive lens exchange, or RLE for short. At Ennen Eye Center, RLE is still done with the assistance of a precision laser but now we are also removing the natural lens that in the future would become a cataract and placing a premium presbyopia-correcting lens implant (IOL) to now correct distance and near vision. These patients can now expect to have laser clear vision even up close for the foreseeable future.

Ennen Eye Center provides safe, effective treatment options to help you improve your vision.

Who Is a Candidate?

LASIK and PRK can safely treat certain degrees of nearsightedness, far-sightedness, and astigmatism. The ideal candidate for laser vision correction is at least 21 years old with healthy eyes.

And although most patients prior to cataract development are eligible for laser vision correction, there are medical and ocular conditions that make certain patients unsafe for these procedures. Our top priority is your safety and getting you out of your glasses and contact lenses.

We succeed when you succeed. Come join the thousands of patients in the Arkansas River Valley and surrounding area who have had successful laser vision correction at Ennen Eye Center.
